Working with Checkside since: 2019
As Tradeware Group continues to grow, the leadership team has recognised that scaling the business would require more than strong products and commercial success. The business wanted to strengthen leadership capability, build succession depth and establish a more disciplined approach to strategy execution that could support its next phase of growth.
The priorities were to:
The challenge wasn’t simply developing strategy. It was creating the leadership capability and operating rhythm required to execute it over the long term.
Embedding strategy as an ongoing process
Checkside has partnered with Tradeware since 2019, facilitating annual strategy development and refresh, translating strategy into clear business priorities and supporting monthly accountability rhythms that keep strategic initiatives moving. Rather than treating strategy as an isolated annual planning exercise, the leadership team has established a consistent process that keeps priorities visible throughout the year.
Building leadership capability
Alongside strategy execution, Checkside has co-designed and embedded a leadership development program that has progressively strengthened leadership capability across the organisation. The program has created a common leadership language, improved coaching capability and supported succession planning throughout the business. Importantly, Tradeware‘s internal People & Culture function has gradually taken greater ownership of this internally as they have become familiar with the learning material.
Consistent growth and business performance
Tradeware achieved solid revenue and profitability across FY23, FY24 and FY25 whilst FY26 delivered a steady outcome as they continue to invest in future growth.
Stronger leadership and succession
Leadership capability has continued to mature, culminating in a successful succession from CFO to CEO for Davd Foy, while Founder Gavin Carey transitioned from CEO into a Non-Executive Director role. At the same time, new leadership roles have also been filled across the senior leadership team.
Strategy that stays visible
Regular strategy reviews and monthly accountability meetings have become embedded into the way the leadership team operates, ensuring strategic priorities remain front of mind alongside day-to-day operations. This provides great visibility and stronger accountability amongst the leadership group.
Capacity to focus on growth
A stronger executive team has enabled greater focus on acquisitions, company-owned brands, product development and longer-term strategic initiatives.
“Checkside continually straighten us up to ensure we focus on the strategically important items. They have helped provide the guidance and discipline to get out of the operational weeds and make time to think strategically on a regular basis.”
“Checkside has continually taken the time to truly understand our people and business to tailor solutions that really fit our needs. Their clear, pragmatic approach has helped optimise and drive our business priorities.”
Sustainable growth doesn’t happen because businesses write better strategies. It happens because leaders continually create the time, discipline and accountability to execute them.
Tradeware’s journey demonstrates what becomes possible when strategy, leadership development and succession planning are treated as ongoing business processes supported by sustained investment rather than isolated initiatives.
